Colour! I love it!

… when it creates drama and impact

... when it dances before your eyes

... when it stirs the soul and fires the imagination

… when it shouts, or sings, or simply whispers

My work could be described as a love affair with colour, and a fascination with numbers.

Following a degree in communications design and a career as a graphic designer, I turned my attention to fine art - and found a wonderful freedom to bring to birth what’s inside me, in the most appropriate medium. As a graphic designer, I worked with some very inspiring mathematicians and became acutely aware of the way number and proportion help to determine beauty in the natural world. My fascination with the intricacies of number, and the raw power of colour has never left me.

I use strong, bold colours and put them into relationship with each other to see what happens - to see how they affect each other. I use ‘powerful’ numbers to create my designs because it is my belief that the numbers and proportions we find in the natural world are intrinsically beautiful. I trust the numbers to produce beauty.

Vibrant colours, strong, geometric shapes and the strict application of logical number patterns, then, characterise my work. I trust that if my colour choice and the proportions are right, and the numbers are applied with integrity, then the final piece will be greater than my imagination - and greater than the sum of its parts.

My aim is to give viewers a joyful and arresting visual experience. To inspire deep contemplation. To lift spirits and make people smile. (And maybe also to intrigue them a little!)

I am privileged to have had three of my pieces purchased by The international Quilt Museum in Nebraska for their permanent Contemporary Textile Art Collection.

In 2018 I had a solo exhibition of my work at the Festival of Quilts.

In 2019, I had a solo exhibition in St Mary the Virgin Church in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market.

At the present time, several of my pieces are being exhibited in Europe and the USA.

I belong to Studio Art Quilt Associates, the Quilter's Guild of the British Isles, the Contemporary Quilt Group and 20Perspectives, an International group of textile artists.

I am always delighted to be asked to present a talk about my work, or to lead a workshop.
